Welcome to Claughton Wild
EXCELLENT Based on 64 reviews Goose042025-09-09Verified An amazing place to stay We just spent 3 days at Claughton Wild Hotel- Wilpattu and it was amazing. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and super nice , the food was delicious and you’ll certainly not go hungry . I fully recommend getting the full board , it was well worth it . We stayed in a lodge as the chalets were booked out, it was extremely comfortable , clean and quiet. The whole resort was booked out but it was so calm and it felt like you were the only ones there. I would highly recommend this resort to everyone , if you want a fantastic hotel right near Wilputtu National Park ( less than 10 mins drive to the gate ), then don’t look any further, this is the hotel for you. We will definitely be returning . roserugby32025-09-02Verified A unique hotel in a brilliant location This is an hotel with a difference. The staff are friendly but quiet. The food was delicious. The bed was comfortable and cool. There are chalets placed around the reception, dining and pool areas. Each with stunning views over the uninhabited countryside. There was plenty of small wildlife to see. There is a large room with floor to ceiling windows looking at the views and balconies with comfortable seating. Our bathroom had no roof. An unforgettable experience. andrew s2025-08-30Verified Amazing place, well worth a stay. Dominic and his team were great. The atmosphere was friendly and the food and service made our experience memorable. Close to the wildlife park entrance as well. They have some great plans to enhance the experience. Relax252796243042025-08-16Verified Understated luxury Understated luxury at its best. This hotel is perfectly situated for visits to Wilpattu national park but is a destination in its own right. We were greeted with welcoming cold towels and drinks on arrival and after day drives. The rooms are stunning, and many have verandahs with views to open countryside. Food is superb & served in a lovely open-sided dining area. The buffet is small but excellent dishes (& packed breakfast/lunch on request). We are two couples who prefer not to eat meat so each night we had vegetarian curry dishes on our table to supplement the buffet. Nothing is too much trouble - between us we asked for cold milk and a teapot for our rooms - and queries are dealt with immediately. And the beautiful swimming pool is available from dawn to dusk. A fantastically relaxing end to 12 days of our wildlife trip with Bird & Wildlife Team, Colombo. Thank you Sam D2025-08-05Verified Safari hotel A very nice set of rooms in a small resort perfect for the safari. We had 5 rooms and all were very nicely decorated and maintained. Food and service were excellent. It’s a relaxed place, very quiet and we all had a great time. John E2025-08-05Verified Perfect accommodation for visiting Wilpattu. Excellent location for visiting Wilpattu National Park, which is only a few minutes away by car. Johannes was a first class and helpful host who was very attentive throughout our stay. The accommodation was of a very high standard and the Sri Lankan cuisine was delicious, especially when having the opportunity to eat it on the outside terrace. Lovely tranquil rural setting and the swimming pool made for a thoroughly relaxing time after a safari. Karolien D2025-07-30Verified Wonderfull stay What a wonderfull hotel with a lovely staff. The envirement is very peacefull with a beautiful swimmingpool. The food is delicious (and we are real foodies). It is high standard for Sri Lanka. We would come back! Don’t hesitate and book this place Vince J2025-07-19Verified Amazing location and lovely hotel This was the last stop of our 3 week holiday in Sri Lanka and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer hotel to stay at. We only stayed for 2 nights but could have easily stayed for more if time allowed. There are separate chalets so we had 2 between the 4 of us and we were lucky enough to have ours looking out onto the paddy fields (not lucky enough to see the elephants who visited in the early hours tho). The chalets are spacious and comfortable and one came with its own resident tarantula who slept in the bathroom. We were going to get it removed but the boys (19 and 16) enjoyed the company. The food we had was all freshly made with night 1 being a chicken and potato dish with night 2 a Sri Lankan dish wok fried in front of us. The manager couldn’t have been more helpful and attentive and the staff were always on hand to assist when needed. I have read reviews where people have said that they were almost forced to give tips but we didn’t feel that at all and were happy to tip as per all hotels we stayed at. The location is 10 minutes away from the Wilpattu national park so we spent a day there with the jeep collecting us from the hotel and we were supplied with breakfast sandwiches then wraps, fruit and yoghurt for lunch from the hotel. I would highly recommend staying here and thank the staff for a memorable last 2 nights in Sri Lanka Lalith S2025-06-18Verified Serenity amongst the Paddy Fields Where the dirt track ends you reach Claughton Wild, truly an oasis surrounded by swaying paddy fields in two directions. This beautifully kept small lodge offers tranquillity in a pleasing environment. Run by the owner Russel Gray, it reflects his love for flawlessness. Assisted by affable and versatile Yohan Lappen who is ever-present we were well taken care of. Dominic in the front office and rest of the staff were at hand ever ready to serve. The villas with a veranda are spacious, clean and have a commanding view of the paddy fields. The bathroom with a shower open to natural light is special. We had local food, and the flavours were truly authentic. The lodge is only ten minutes away from the park entrance. Even if you were to explore other attractions, the lodge is within proximity to a few ancient sites including the city of Anuradhapura. All in all, we had a lovely stay. Alice2025-06-11Verified High quality haven in a prime location for Wilpattu Perfectly located close the Wilpattu National Park yet high quality and luxury feel. High standard rooms, clean relaxing pool, great birdwatching and attentive service. We did not book directly as our tour company Authenticities arranged the stay, so cannot comment on that aspect, but check in and arrival was smooth and hassle free. Greeted by cold towels and fresh juice which was perfect after a long drive. Bags carried to our room and although prompted to tip, we appreciate this having come from a country where tipping is uncommon so we are unsure of etiquette. Room spacious, clean and modern. Large glass windows overlooking rice paddy- perfect for birdwatching from bed, but also blackout blinds if you would rather. Indoor and outdoor seating. Air conditioning and fan in main room. No fan in bathroom and no way of keeping door open so did get warm and humid in there- some may like it but for me I would appreciate some way of cooling down the bathroom- not a major issue though! Grounds were lovely, well kept and very peaceful. Excellent birdwatching surrounding the area, including by the pool, with other wildlife spotted too! Pool clean, refreshing, big enough and quiet, with plenty of sunloungers should they be required. Food was excellent- we went with the traditional menu. Their sambal is to die for! We had a full day safari so they sent us with a pack up breakfast and lunch and plenty of water. Coffee and cake whilst watching spotted deer was just perfect. Plenty of food and drink for the day. Drinks were very reasonably priced. I understand some reviews when they say staff were. Little overbearing- however I really believe this is because they want to ensure everything is up to standard- therefore it is not an issue. Staff were so friendly and always willing to help. Special mention to Johan who oversaw everything and was great.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
